This site provides an interactive map and charts, with a summary report, about missed trash and recycling pickup 311 requests across DC. It does not assign blame to any individuals, only identifies a (series of) problem(s) with solid waste pickup across the city. The aim is to present information in an easily digestible manner, so that the responsible organization, the Department of Public Works, and the DC Council's Committee on Public Works and Operations (which oversees their performance) can act strategically and solve them.

This project was built in a Ghostty terminal using Antigravity-CLI running Gemini Flash 3.8, and is hosted on GitHub. The basemaps are Stamen Toner, rendered in Leaflet.js, with other graphics using Chart.js, and exports facilitated using jsPDF. The data used are publicly available thanks to Open Data DC. It was most directly inspired by Josh Jacobson. Civic coding projects like these are products of frustration (why is it so hard for my neighbors to get trash and recycling picked up) and hope (how can we understand and solve citywide problems to improve our community).
